Hi. For the last 6 months I've been developing a game under linux. I am looking for people who have linux, who can test out the game and tell me if it runs ok.
I plan to distribute the game as a binary(source will be included). I am having lots of problems with dynamic libraries though, that's why I need confirmation that the game runs on many different systems.
So far, I have built a binary that should run on any recent gcc3-based distro. I've only tested it on 1 mandrake 9 system.
If you are interested in helping me out, what you would have to do is download a 1.8 mb file and see if it runs or not on your distro. Please post your email address, and your system details(hardware, distro) here or contact me at benny@kramekweb.com
OpenGL is required. (If other 3d games run ok then it means that you have OpenGL set up correctly)
I am also looking for someone who can help me out by compiling a binary for older distros. This is difficult.
Thank you,
Benny Kramek
Why GCC3 based?
What's it about?
Reassure me that your binaries aren't going to attempt to login as root and wipe my home partition.
Otherwise I'd quite like to help yes :)

Why GCC3 based?
Because that's all I have. I'm looking for someone to compile it on an older system.
Don't worry. The binary is perfectly safe.

My goal is to have systems like yours also compatible. That is why I need someone (you?) to compile a binary on a gcc 2.95 based system.
Until then, I'd also like to test my binary on as many gcc 3 distros as I can. I especially need people with redhat, suse, & slackware.

Why won't you give us the source code beforehand? And, what license is it under?
Oh, I am running CRUX Linux (gcc-3.2), and I'm willing to try it.
But I'm going to ask: Why not do it as an open beta?

If it's already compiled, then it's compiled for a specific processor.
If you download the binaries, and they're working on people's x86 hardware, they will not work on your MIPS hardware. You need to compile the source yourself, using a MIPS compiler.

Looks cool. It would be even cooler if you made the camera dynamic. And made the controls feel better. I've never liked movement like that. If the camera is dynamic, it usually offsets the need for different controls, though.

I can be a SuSE 8.0 tester. I actually have gcc-3.2 and 2.95 on my system right now... (if I can remember how to get to the non-default 3.2...). I'm d/l from the above link now...

Yup worked! No music/sound tho'. PII 266 MHz with Geforce 2 64 MB. Got about 60 fps at 800x600, even 1024 was a playable 25-30 fps. I liked that the different balls had different properties - the inflated tux was my fave! (PS - my system is mainly 2.95 - 3.2 was added very recently and not done a kernel compile with it, if that makes a difference?)

How do you gunzip something
Penrich
12-14-2002, 05:45 PM
to gunzip simply type gunzip filename.gz
Where filename is obviously, the name of the file you want to gunzip...

whats supposed to happen after that
richjoyce

then the filename.gz becomes filename ...so for this you have to run chmod +x filename and then ./filename

Okay, do i run it from terminal or just from run command
How about ppc? These x86 only games just wanna make me... grr... Okay, mdk 8.2 ppc, cooker. This probably means I will need source, unless you can supply a ppc binary.
