Alright... I've seen this posted several times, but looking over those posts I couldn't find one that answered my question satisfactory. This is my problem....

I own The Sims, The Sims Hot Date, and The Sims House Party. I have heard rumors that You could run The Sims on Linux with Winex... while other sources tell me that you can only run a modified version released by transgaming. I went to their site and... found out they wanted me to PAY for it.

As you could guess... I would NOT want to pay for something that I have already paid for!! I bought The Sims when it 1st came out (cost me $49)... adding an extra $30 on top of it is a little outragous. Anyways... I was wondering if there is any other way to pay it, as I really don't want to switch back to Windows (not that I can for awhile... I have 20 Gigs of important stuff I need to nback up before I go about partioning).

Hate to burst your bubble, but you need to get the Linux version from www.transgaming.com :(

I have looked into this also and was dissapointed as they had to make specific tweaks to make it work.

AND

The expansion packs do not work with it.
You can find all the info on their site (http://www.transgaming.com/gamefaq.php?gameid=9) but to save you time reading through the whole thing...

Can I run my Windows version of The Sims in WineX?
No. Unfortunately to make The Sims run under Linux Transgaming Technologies had to make some substantial changes to the original source code. This change makes it impossible to run The Sims for Windows under WineX

Do The Sims expansion packs work under Linux?
To make The Sims work under Linux, Transgaming Technologies had to make some substantial changes to the original game code. Because of this change the expansion packs will not currently work under Linux. Transgaming Technologies is considering starting work on the expansion packs in the new year.

Confound it!

Guess if I want to play it again, I'm gonna have to begin backing up my 20 Gigs of data so I can mess with the partions and install Win98se on one partion (I've been planning to get around to doing this anyway, I want another "extra" partion for learning other distros and freeBSD)
