Hey everyone,
I just set up a RedHat 8.0 web/ftp/ssh server. It's running fine with the
exception of a few things.
First of all, I can't access the web server from outside of my home network.
My ISP blocks 80 and 8080 so I set my box to listen to 1002 and my router to
route port 1002 to my box. However, still doesn't work.
My second problem is that SSH times out sometimes. After that, I can not
SSH back into the server for about 5 to 10 minutes. Is there a way to
configure SSH so that the connection never times out? There will only be a
few people connecting to the box so I don't mind if it's open for a long
time.
Finally, my FTP server isn't working and I do not know where to start on how
to configure it. While RedHat was installing, it looked like several
different FTP daemons were installing so I do not even know which one to
use. I found the configuration file for vsftpd and I edited it but the
vsftpd server isn't in /etc/init.d so I do not know how to start it. Will
normal users be able to log in and upload files to home directory?
Thanks for you time and sorry for the newb questions!
