I have a copy of redhat 8. The copy is not in the iso image file format. It is the indvidual files in each of the folders as downloaded from an ftp site. How do I install linux from these files ? All the documentation I find is for an installation from iso image files.

You can install from a boot floppy.

Have you read this (http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-8.0-Manual/install-guide/s1-steps-install-cdrom.html)?

Another way: Buy some cheap CDs:
Discount Linux CDs (http://www.edmunds-enterprises.com/linux/)
Linux Central (http://linuxcentral.com/)
Cheapbytes (http://cart.cheapbytes.com/cgi-bin/cart)

Look for an autorun file. If it has that you might be able to just copy the whole thing to a CD (and after booting) just insert the CD....

HINT: Mandrake-Linux 9.0 ;)
