I suspect I have been misunderstanding CVS. I also want to get a CVS offering via windows.
Here is the site: Ardour (http://ardour.sourceforge.net/). I click the download link, then the CVS info link. How does one do this via Windows?

A Google search (http://www.google.com/search?q=cvs+via+windows) turned up this hit (http://www.devguy.com/fp/cfgmgmt/cvs/cvs_ssh.htm) that looks as if it may help you.

Thanks fancypiper. I also googled and found CVS Home. (http://www.cvshome.org/)
I keep hearing (elsewhere) that in Windows, I just need to 'download the folder'.
The Google link you posted (as well as information at Cvshome.org) tells me I need software installed and I do not grep 'get folder' responses in light of needing to install software.... what are these folks using to 'get the folder'... is that something that I will understand after I install the software?
If so, I'm in deep doodoo, because the destination Windows PC is having enough problems as it is, I do not want to add more software to it!

I abandoned Windows, so I can't help you in that.
I just installed cvs for Gentoo and followed directions to get the source.
I haven't gotten Ardour to work yet. I understand it is pre-beta as of now. :(

PREbeta??? Hmpffff - the Sourceforge link (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ardour/) I started from says '4 - beta', not prebeta. Is Ardour of interest to you, fancypiper? I know you are a musician and all.
EDIT: @#$% copy/paste issues /EDIT

http://www.wincvs.org/ -- when I needed to checkout some files, this one worked. Just be careful when following the directions - there are some things in there about putting it in the right directory or some such things (sorry, it's been awhile since I used it on Win)
If you've been to CVShome then you know it's Concurrent Version System which allows several people to work on a project without accidentally re-writing someone's work (which I tend to do in my html coding sometimes so I've been *told* to start using it).

Yes, our band does our own recording and mastering of our music. We did our first two using Windows and several different audio programs. I am trying to find a way to completely abandon Windows and audio editing is the last step.
Check out this slashdot article (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/12/10/1755212&mode=thread&tid=141). I am dusting off my 'drake disk and downloading this to try on another box and check it out. Then I'll see if I can get it on my Gentoo box.

Sorry, this is beyond me. I can neither MIDI, nor can I middle C. I just wanted the ability to play with audio loops and ardour looked like it added an oscillator but csound using an orchestra and midi as well as a dozen other programs, to create something that a CAS engineer can use is hehe, waaaay over my head. Middle C...... where is middle C.
So, lets back up a step or three.
Ardour is available as RPM or CVS source only (I run Arch Linux, RPM not preferred), and I do not comprehend CVS via windows, which is where I started.
Does anyone think that when I install the windows version of CVS software, that this software might make CVS work for me? I'm leary of installing the software on a Windows PC because the PC is already kinda unstable (which is M$ fault).
Or, as an after thought, does Knoppix support CVS on the live Linux on CD?? Lemme check on this last part....

ummm, yes, Knoppix has CVS functionality, but no, Linux does not make CVS any more intuitive.
Never mind. I want to use the software on my computer, not get a degree in computer sciences.
