I'm a major newb here, but i really want to learn.

i just installed redhat 8.0 on a separate hdd and booting into windows is very slow. it can take up to 10 minutes. based on what i've read, i need to hide the linux partition from windows.

I've got win2k (sp3) on a 60gb hdd and RH8 on a 4gb hdd. soyo dragon ultra motherboard althlon XP 1800+. I also downloaded the latest amd kernel.

from what i've read, i should try to edit the grub.conf file, but i'm not sure how to do it.

Win2k is on hde1. RH is on hdg1(ext3), hdg2 (ext3) and hdg3 (swap).

in my grub.conf file, all there is under the title DOS is:

rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

does anyone have any suggestions? i know this has been asked before, but i'm so painfully new i think i need a little extra help here.

thanks!

i'm back and still having a little trouble. Based on my search around the net last night, i made some edits to the grub.conf file hoping to hide the linux partition from windows. i was able to boot into windows afterward, but it was still pretty slow. i went to bed expecting to tackle it once again this morning and now i'm stuck at the "grub>" prompt. don't know how to get past this or how to get the gui back. i used the bootdisk i created during installation to get back into linux and i changed the grub.conf back to what it was exactly, but still no gui.

can anyone help? if you need more info, please let me know.

thx!
