I'm running Mandrake 8.2 on a Mac G3 Lombard. In fact, I even wiped out the Mac OS and run only Mandrake on the notebook.

My problem: When I try to update anything through the Mandrake software installer - security fixes, bugs, etc. - I get an error. At the end of the process I get the message that "Unfortunately packages could not be installed due to an error." But I get no details about the error.

The error comes at the end of the attempted install process. I am able to locate patches; select the ones I want; and tell Mandrake to update; after about 30 secs of trying, Mandrake gives me the error.

You can find this Mandrake application in the GUI by clicking through "What to do/Administer System/Mandrake Update" (I don't have the G3 in front of me now, so this is from memory.)

I've even reinstalled Mandrake, and the problem is not fixed. Any ideas?

I've also posted this in the Technical Support section...
