I'm currently using the Debian dvd to install Debian in place of mdk (chucked xp back on to ensure net access during installation ...oh the shame of it!! :o :( ) and the only problem I'm having is in getting it to go with the 2.4.19 kernel instead of the 2.2 version that it keeps defaulting to. I'm about to have another crack at it and will try adding and subtracting in dselect during the installation process but as this is the third attempt, can anyone point me in the right direction if this ain't it. Documentation over @ debian.org doesn't seem to clear about that side of things.

Cheers

Edit: Failed miserably  about to try this way http://www.linuxnewbie.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71146&highlight=debian+and+kernel+and+2.4+and+install

I don't use dvd's but Debian doesn't come with 2.4.19 kernel only 2.4.18bf...

at the boot menu just type bf24 or hit f3 to see the options

that bf24 command should be given after boot from dvd (before install starts).

Yep that did it :)

Thx m8 & you're right btw, I think I was getting a bit confused with the mdk 2.4.19 on the last post. Installation was a complete success and just the graphics, net and sound to configure and all should be well.

A quick note for anyone that comes across this post on a search. The only other problem I had was getting it to load (or accept use of) agpgart during the installation process. Adding the line agp_try_unsupported=1 as an option when compiling the module sorted that out.

Only 5 minutes of use so far but I'm beginning to understand why Debian users love their distro so much :)
