OK, I have a problem.
when I install BIND. I get all kinds of errors.
one is that I cant start or stop or restart the program.
I have absolutely no idea why. even when I just have the default
zones. still wont work.
any ideas why this may be? errr. and Another question whille I'm here. Can I makea LinuxBox a slave DNS server and get records from a win2k or win NT server?
Thankyou for the help.

waldoxwho,
I'm assuming the start, restart problem is coming from /etc/init.d/named? Check you system logs (/var/log/messages or some such) for the actual error. Otherwise, there isn't much to go on.

You'll have to check the docs on zone transfers to find out if the Windows DNS servers can transfer to bind (they should.) Check the windows docs first, as they are more likely to talk about the capability. If by slave you mean secondary DNS server, yes it will work, but secondary DNS servers can have their problems (timeouts and such.)

Good luck,
chris

Thanx Chris, I'll certainly look into that.
I appreciate the help :)
I'll come back if I have more problems, or if I find errors.
thanx again.
