Help i cant get past the install help me please!!

Hello. I have been trying to install linux Red Hat for about 6 months now :s When i was installing it at first i was trying to make a dual boot system. Every time i would install i would get a kernal panic error every time. Now i have two pc's and i have been trying to install on one. But after the install now i get a infinit loop of 1 and 0's. ( Like-0101010101010100001111010) Help me i REALY want to be on a linux but it would be nice if i could see what it was like Thank You

Version 6.2 i also have 4.1.......dose it matter what kind of hard drive i have ? i mean ive been running winblows on it for years now

What are partitions/sizes and where did you install the Linux bootloader, mbr or Linux boot/root partition?

ok these are my system specs first :

nvida geforce 2 mx400 64mb agp
128mb if pc 100 ram
westerdigital 2.5gb hdd(the linux one)
on board sound

ok the patitions are :
/boot 16mb
/ 2400 mb
<swap> 128

i have tryed doing a dual boot system on a nother hdd but i still got a kernal panic errror. although i dont want a dual boot system any more( just linux thank you) i have never been able to install and get it to boot. Oh i have tryed doing linux on theMBR and the first clust on the partion but the same 10001010101010 loop. WTF do i do???????

Am i going to have to stick with windows??? I mean i need my computer but i would realy like to get off this crapy microsoft OS

If you install Lilo in the mbr, then you do not need a separate /boot partition.

If you do install Lilo in /boot, then that partition must be on the first HD and below the 1024 cylinder. Beginning of the drive would be best.

950mhz amd duron
128mb of pc 133mem

Ok im not trying to make a dual boot system im just trying to install linux on a serparate hdd and i will interchange them. Any way i have tryed install redhat 6.2 12 times now. The first 4 times i was trying to make a dual boot system. But after the install i would get a kernal panic errror. Ok now all i want is a linux box. When i install now i get a infinit loop of 1 and 0's-ex-10101010101010101100

My Partions on my hadd for linux are -

<swap> 128mb
/ 2400mb
/boot 16mb

WTF do i do i have never been able to install linux and get it to boot up. And when configuring lilo i have tryed putting it on a pation and in the MBR. HELP ME!!! please that is...

Try another distro? :) Mandrake 9 has always been easy to install for me with all it's fancy autodetect and put answers here configuration stuffs... Or possibly a later version of Red Hat. Your computer really shouldn't be outputting binary to the monitor like that since most humans can't read binary that well.

well how big is mandrake?? Im on a 56k winmodem so i realy cant spend 90 hours downloading you know?

I see, so that could be a problem. Mandrake 9 is 3 cds, so that would take some time, especially for a 56k modem user... Do you have any really cool friends with a cable modem and a cd burner :D

Well can any one help me get RedHat working then ive tryed every thing i know from doing dos and winblows but i cant figure it out:S I need help. But if i cant get it going im going to say f%^& it and find something else :P any thing would be good

Well this was a big surprize (i mean realy it was) Ive tried to fide help on linux ive tryed to find help on linux commands. The only help i was able to find was in Dragon Linux Which is the only one ive founf that will install and work . And yet i can find information of Where to find linux drivers. How to install x windows or masicly how to use linux. I have learned some commands that i stumbed up on and yet i cant find out what software is compatable with Dragon linux unless i can get some help from the forom im just going to take this as a "This must be what linux is all about, confusing people" and through it out. At least windows installs and works. I need help, Thank You
