So I have my Apache server running well, and my site is looking good, but having set up FTP services, I cannot connect using an FTP client to user accounts to get to the WWW folders remotely.

I can connect to the box using a browser from elsewhere using ftp://myurl but only get the guest FTP login directory. I set up a real FTP user account, but cannot get a connection. When trying to FTP to my IP address or ftp.myURL with an FTP client from elsewhere, I get the error report "530 Must perform authentication before identifying USER." when the client is trying to pass the username.

Any ideas? Can someone guide me through setting up a Web publishing FTP account to Apache?

Thanks

I'm getting "command not found". Do I need to install userdrake, or be in a certain directory to use it?

Thx

what are you using for an FTP client?
what are you using for an FTP server? I recommend proftpd. If you use that, you can jail your users to their home directory or wherever you choose.

As for the client, it sounds like you're auto-logging in with no password set. if you're using windows, when you get the crapped out error message, click on file and select login as...
