I'm running Redhat 8 w/ WebMin installed. I installed thr RPM (1.2.7) for proftpd.....I can access it through WebMin, but when i go to see the etc/proftpd.conf file, this is its contents:

<Global>
</Global>

thats it.....?? where is all the other stuff. Did WebMin mess this up?? I downloaded a cople tarballs....(different versions of Proftpd) and when i try to gunzip'em, it gives me the error: "unexpected end of file".....??

I go to remove the RPM... rpm -e proftp-1.2.7rc3-1.i386.rpm.....and it says that it is not installed...??...but it is because i just installed it wih the previous command --> rpm --install proftp-1.2.7rc3-1.i386.rpm....what gives....these errors are making me feel really stupid, I thought I had a good handle of linux...

I just want to get proftpd up and running...

Thanks:confused: :confused:

do this

cd /
find . -name "proftpd.conf"

Basically do a search on your complete system to see if the install put this in a different location.

If you cant find it, re-install a new rpm form rpmfind.net and see how that goes.

No offense...I'm a newbie, but not an linux idiot...i know how to do a search...

I installed a new rpm..this time, it was the older version of Proftpd -1.2.6.....but the proftpd.conf file remains fairly empty....

Well, if you cant get simple proftpd to work you must be one or the other. If you want people to help you here, then take thier help and shut-up. Otherwise, stick to windows...you seem like thats a better fit for you. no offense.
