I just a got a new sound blaster live card. I have the drivers compiled into the kernel but when I run sndconfig it finds some Aureal Card that is built onto my motherboard. How do I make it detect my Sound Blaster LIve?

the processor on SB live cards is called EMU10K1. you should disable the on board sound from the BIOS.

or just run modprobe emu10k1 and edit whatever file your distro uses to automatically load modules on bootup.
