I keep on getting sound errors when booting up.
The message is along the lines of /dev/audio cannot be found.

I have a dual boot system, running win 2000 and redhat 7.2.
The sound card is a yamaha ymf744b. It seems it gives errors when i boot windows first and then linux. IT wont play any sound files. It also cant find the program sndconfig.BUt then sometimes the sound does work, strange. Look foward to anyones response.

The normal responses for the soundcard device not found related problems here at LNO would be to ensure you have the correct permissions.

As root

chmod 660 /dev/dsp
chmod 660 /dev/audio

Are the yamaha soundcard modules loaded?

lsmod (list loaded modules)

You can also try searching the LNO forums as I'm sure I've seen other yamaha/ymf744b questions asked before.

I'll check the NHF's... Be right back.

Nope. I thought LNO had a NHF on Yamaha.
