LinuxLuke 11-22-2002, 12:17 PM you're going to upgrade FROM a Raedon 7500, I'm thinking of upgrading TO a 7000 :P anyway, now that I know i can get drivers, I'm buying that 7000 for sure. Icarus 11-22-2002, 12:48 PM Now that ATI has Linux drivers for their cards, the Alienware Area51m is starting to look A LOT more attractive :D dirt 11-22-2002, 03:39 PM Hey Madhi, Before you fork out all that cash for the Alienware laptop, check out the ones they have at powernotebooks (http://www.powernotebooks.com). I will be purchasing one myself and these guys are way cheaper for the same model. Those drivers are for 8500s and up . I dont know for sure , but the 7000 is getting pretty scarce in the stores so it may not be readily available . Get the 7500 . If you keep your eyes open it can be bought for about 80 bucks retail and 55 OEM . Its a good card but kinda limited functionality in a lot of the newer games . You also get 3d hardware acceleration right off the bat with all the latest distros (2.4.xx and up). No 3rd party driver installation necessary . justlinux.com
