I wonder if that new driver will allow Radeon 8500 and up users to finally play UT2003 in Linux ?

I was gonna post this but you got to it first! This is some really good news for us Linux users. I'm gonna install them in a bit and try to run the UT2003 demo to see if it works. Yay!

By the way the new drivers allow you to play UT2003! Just was playing the demo.

Now I don't have to shy away from getting a laptop with a Radeon chip :D

you're going to upgrade FROM a Raedon 7500, I'm thinking of upgrading TO a 7000 :P anyway, now that I know i can get drivers, I'm buying that 7000 for sure.

Now that ATI has Linux drivers for their cards, the Alienware Area51m is starting to look A LOT more attractive :D

Before you fork out all that cash for the Alienware laptop, check out the ones they have at powernotebooks (http://www.powernotebooks.com). I will be purchasing one myself and these guys are way cheaper for the same model.

I dont know for sure , but the 7000 is getting pretty scarce in the stores so it may not be readily available . Get the 7500 . If you keep your eyes open it can be bought for about 80 bucks retail and 55 OEM . Its a good card but kinda limited functionality in a lot of the newer games .

You also get 3d hardware acceleration right off the bat with all the latest distros (2.4.xx and up). No 3rd party driver installation necessary .
