OK. I've went on an upgrade binge the last couple of weeks, and now have 2 computers that I'm going to try to run linux on ((ok, well, the one already has it on, but I'm going to reinstall since so much has changed on it, probably easier than changing settings)). The question is, is there any support for the Radeon 9000 or the Xabre Pro 400 chipsets in linux? I know summit offers support for the 9000 in it's products, but since they're not free, I'd rather avoid them...
I know the standard VESA driver will work, but I was wondering if there were any 3d drivers out there. Thus far I've had no success finding any info using google. Thanks for any info you can provide.

3D for Radeons, AFAIK, is limited to the 7500 and lower cards (you have to use DRI), and ATI themselves have written a driver for the 8500. But I've never seen drivers for anything else. Ever.
What is that "Xabre Pro 400" chipset? I've never heard of Xabre...

Unless you are conflicted by changing your distro, Red Hat 8 has support for all of the Radeon chipsets. That includes the 9000 series. Unfortunatley, I haven't heard of the Xabre Pro 400 chipsets. What distro do you have?

I use:
Debian SID (libranet 2.0 base)
Arch 0.3
Gentoo 1.4 if they ever release it...
Mandrake 9.0 if I can ever get the cd's to work.
Just noticed the links for the radeon drivers!! I hope the 9000pro drivers will work with the 9000...they should, since it's the same chip with different clocks...
The other issue, the Xabre is SIS's newest chipset. Like the Radeon 9000 & 9000 pro, it is a fully Direct X 8.1 featured card, yet it costs only around $100. My 400 (250 MHz core, 500 MHz memory) cost me $110.
