Question
I log in on the command line just fine but can't get to the GUI KDE. What command do I use.

Also another quick question is when seting up I coulden't find the appropriate setting for my video and somehow managed to skip the step by mistake and finnish the install. Can this be changed
Anyhelp is much appreciated

I just installed Mandrake 9.0 never used linux before. I though it would start off in a gui however it takes me to the command promt login. I can login both as root and as user however I don't know the command to get to KDE. Any help would be much appreciated.
I had an oldRedHat 6 Guide however that info isn't in there:confused:
Cheers!

First, you will need to set your video parameters correctly. You will need to run throught either xf86config or xf86setup(try one or the other. I don't know which one Mandrake uses, but they do the same thing.) This will allow you to setup your monitor and video card settings as well as keyboard and mouse.

After that, try startx.

And welcome to linux! :D

I heard it may be te online video so I went out and purchased an NVDIA GEFORE. Once I get it installed how can I update the driver, and should I disable onboard SIS??
Thanks guys for helping out so much

You'll definitely need to disable the onboard video chipset in the BIOS to get the system to recognize and use the GeForce card.

As to installing the drivers, that's a bit more complex. You'll find lots of good FAQ's on it both here and at Nvidia's site however. Good luck!

After installing the card I just reinstalling linux and it worked perfectly, now all I have left to do is figure out how to get my sound working.
Any hints for getting Avance AC97 drivers or seting it up in KDE?
