I am currently runnign GNOME 2.0 with sawfish, and I'm thinking of changing the window manager to open/fluxbox. But, my question is this:
What are the advatages/disadvantages of running GNOME with *box as the window manager, as opposed to running *box on it's own but having it invoke gnome-panel on startup.

I'm assuming that *box will run faster as a standalone, but what functionality will I lose by not running it under GNOME as the windowmanager? or is this basically the same thing......
Thanks in advance!

Gnome is not really going to slow you down at all i bet.
Just a matter of wheather you want to go less gui to more command line style.

don't do it

sawfish is a much more powerful window manager than *box.

it can stand on its own without gnome quite happily (and is in fact how I use it). In fact ditch gnome go find idesk to replace gnome panel and you will reach nirvana.

unless your obssesd with tabs which is the only usefulf feature fluxbox has over sawfish.
