My Mac enthusiast of a friend recently told me how he wanted to put Yellow Dog Linux on his old PPC, but he didn't have room in his house...so here I am, with an old mac. There's one problem, the cdrom won't mount stuff, so i can't put the install disc in. It ejects and all, and i can put a disc in, but it's not going to start the install because it doesn't mount. I have yet to find a netinstall for Yellow Dog, and I've ran out of ideas...:(

Thanking you in advance,
Pan Morawski

A little more info please...

What model Mac are you trying this on?

What kind of YDL discs do you have (burned, or purchased)?

When you say the CD won't mount, do you mean that you don't see it on the Mac desktop, or that it's not bootable?

Sorry for lack of info, I'll ask my friend tomorrow when I see him..but for the moment all i can say is that it won't take ANY discs...not just YDL discs, so it doesn't matter what it is. How else can i install ?

The reason I asked is that it sounds like you are physically able to get the disc in the drive, and able to eject it as well. I guess I'm wondering what you expect to happen after you place the disc in the drive...

Ideally; you should put the install disc in the drive, and reboot the machine. I asked what machine you have because I need to know how you might be able to tell it that you want to boot from the CD, not the hard drive (possibly holding down the 'c' button on the keyboard after the startup chimes). Just wondering if you tried any of that? The CD should boot into the install routine, if all of the above stuff works.
