I have an Epson Stylus C60 which worked fine prinitng under Mandrake 8.2. I switched to RH8, and attempted to set it up with the included printtool software.
Whenever I try to print a test page, though - it sends the job and nothing happens. The printer just sits there like a rock.
It's on. It prints from windows. It's low on ink, but the indicator lights aren't on, so that shouldn't matter.
I really need to print! Please help!

I'm bumping this thread to get some attention
I really need to print!
I recently installed CUPS and have set the printer up with that instead of the default LPR - but it still will NOT PRINT.

Another member just recently posted a similiar question on printing with Redhat 8.0.
Have you tried the Redhat online documentation for printing? It tells you how to setup and configure the printer.
I use Caldera with CUPS and use the Print Manager in the KDE Control Center to setup printing.
I also ensure the CUPS Line Printer Daemon and Print Servers (CUPS) services are both enabled and started.

According to the CUPS web interface, when I try to print, I get this message:
"Parallel port busy; will retry in 30 seconds..."
However, I have no idea what to do about it.

as mdwatts has said so many times, have you disabled plug and play os in your bios?
if you are dual booting, windows has the habit of resetting resources when pnp is enabled in the bios and you make changes to your hardware configuration, so when you are back in linux your parallel port might be deactivated.

I haven't booted into windows for over a month... but I'll check my BIOS. Thank you.

Have a look in your system log to see if you can find any problems with the parallel port.
less /var/log/messages
PgUp - PgDn and 'q' to exit less.

Someone noticed. Is it that obvious? :D
Works for most resource conflicts though and is recommended for any Linux installation.

I've switched back to LPR, and now I'm getting an odd problem when trying to configure my printer.
When restarting LPR - I get " Fatal error - Cannot bind to lpd port '515' "
Plug And Play OS is disabled in the BIOS as well.
Any help would be appriciated!
