I cant believe all the work i did to get my modem installed in mandrake linux just to find out that its not going to work (says aol). Now, i got linux because you can do alot more with it than windoze. Is there a way to make it work? has anybody ever done it? they got aol im for linux, should be a way. Got a post in the "programing and script depo" bout this also. thought it belonged here also. anybody every got linux online with aol? not hooked on them by far, just got 2 years free and dont want to pay for isp if i dont have to. thanks

google pengAOL or get wine, as shown by this thread. Wait a min, its your thread!
If your saying you have a winmodem... well... better go buy a new modem. You probly have two seperate problems:
1. AOL on linux
it just doesn't work, unless you try wine
2. WinModem
YOu can't really get these to work at a ll....

I would try to find pengaol before I tried wine. Do some google searches or search slashdot, because pengaol had to change their domain name when aol sued them. I can't remember the new name, but there was a slashdot article about it.

If it doesn't try a free ISP see if Dotnow is in your area they are Linux friendly..

Ok, This is what i found. Wine will not install because it needs a file libnt.dll.dll.so. I found one page on it but it looks like a long process and i dont think its going to be worth the trouble.
Pengaol dosent dial but it installs and uninstalls so easy, i may try to make it work somehow. Dotnow is not in my area, but that may change in a month or so.
instant aol ? Ill try that. maybe it will work.
I thought about seening if i could not take pengaol apart, one script at a time and maybe i can get the "connect to aol" secquance and make it work with my modem. With all the programing tools in linux surley their is a way.
thanks. ill keep you updated.

Go see if Toast.net (http://www.toast.net) is in your area...you can get an account for $15.95 per mo. Plus you will have a real ISP, not aohell!!!:D
