im on linux mandrake 8.2 and my soundcard is SiS (silicon integrated systems) im not sure what exactly it is but i think its onboard. anyway Ive run harddrake and it detects a "SiS PCI audio accelerator" which is fine, and i can play mp3's most of the time... but sometimes when i switch my computer on the sound is all distorted like its really badly recorded. this sometimes rectifies itself for no apparent reason if i run harddrake. anyway i want to know why it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt, and whats causing the distorted noise.

say would you mind explaining how you got your on board sound card working in the first place. Mine has been a real pain.

look in Harddrake.
