before i make the change to madrake theres a couple of items of hardware i havent been able to find ont he compatibility database at mandrake.com

They are:

Highpoint Controller: hpt 370
Sound Card: Soundblaster PCI512
Cable Modem: terajet TJ210
NIC: Realtek RTL8139/810X PCI
CDROM: Creative PCDVD 12x
Philips 12x24x40

--Does anyone know if these devices are compatible at all??

Linux supports most hardware, although not right out of the box for all. You shouldn't have any problems with cdrom, the rest can be done with minimal configuration. Install, then come back here and take care of the ones you aren't able to on your own.

All but Cable Modem: terajet TJ210.

Internal Cablemodem? USB?

If connected to the Realtek, then should not be a problem.

Ah hell - its external USB actually - it does have NIC support, but that NIC is used for the LAN... loosk liek another NIC is in order :(
