Hi All - I have another modem question all though it's of a different sort. Has anyone put two modems into a linux box and got them to work? I will be trying to do this on a Debian 3.0 system. Thanks.

See what the kppp documentation says. It seems like you should be able to since it is basically a network device and linux allows more than one network device. Kppp would have to have separate configurations for each one and you would have to start 2 kppps at once to use both modems. But then you would need separate phone lines. Stylesmdj 11-01-2002, 01:36 PM Thanks for the info. In your opinion would it be better to pick up two of the same? I was looking at picking up a couple of USR PCI modems, or is it easier with external modems? Qwijibrumm 11-01-2002, 03:31 PM USR 56k PCI modems are supported inhearantly by the kernel. No module required as they use a very generic chipset. However, I have never gotten any auto-detect software to find them. You may just have to keep trying /dev/ttyS4,S5,S6 until you find the right device. External modems might be a little easier, you should just have to load the ACM module into your kernel. Or your distro might detect them. I do not know exactly what the device name would wind up as for a USB modem. PCI is usually cheaper though. justlinux.com
