Okay I am installing linux mandrake 9.0. I am manually setting the partitions, because none of the options really meet what I want. Anyway here is how my sixty gb drive is currently partioned.
going from left to right
1. Type: FAT mounting point: /mnt/win_c device: hda1 //this is my origional windows partition.

2. Type Linux native (0x83) mounting point: / device: hda5 // this is my linux root... I guess

3. type swap device: hda6

4. type journalised fs: ext3 mounting point /home

anyway when I select done in the partition program and go on to the formating step, I get the error message: mounting partition /dev/hda1 in directory /mnt/mnt/win_c failed. invalid arguments
I am not formating my origional c drive because my files are on it so mabey that is the problem.

also how big should I make each partition if the three linux partitons add up to 19 gb and lastly, Do I need all three of those partitions and what are they for, did I leave anything out?

anyway if you see anything I did wrong let me know

During install you are choosing partitions for your new Linux filesystem to be installed on. I would guess this is not the correct time to add your Windows drive as a mount point.
I have no idea if you CAN add it during install, but I never do. I add an entry to "/etc/fstab" at a later time.
Good Luck
