I'm attempting to do a stage-3 install with Gentoo 1.4rc1. When I get to a certain point in the install, the install docs say to type emerge sync to update my Portage source tree. When I do this, I get an error saying:
rsync: getaddrinfo: rsync.gentoo.org 873: Temporary failure in name resolution
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(97)
I went to terminal 2 and did ifconfig which returned results matching almost exactly what the docs say I should get. The differences were mainly IPs (obviously) and that kind of thing. I did note that it had UP and BROADCASTING in there, which the docs say are the key things to look for. Also, /etc/resolv.conf has
nameserver 10.12.1.12
nameserver 10.12.1.11
search marist.edu
in it. I know those are the DNS servers for my school. Not really sure what the search marist.edu is (I do know that I go to Marist, that prolly has something to do with it ) At any rate, I'm pretty sure my DHCP is working, and I'm rather at a loss to figure this out. Google and the gentoo forums turned up little; a few people mentioned accidentally renaming resolv.conf to resolve.conf when they copied it by I have found no mention anywhere of the actually copying so if this is required I can guarantee I haven't done it. I've heard many good things about Gentoo, so I'd like to give it a shot, but this is rather in the way of things; help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I tried to include what I thought was relevant so if I missed anything just let me know. Thanks!
