Ok My harddrive is Maxtor 40GB rpm7200..

I split my harddrive into 2.. C: drive 20gb, D: 20gb.

THe C: drive have installed the Win200 pro with NTFS. So i want to install the Linux REdhat 8.0 in the D: drive. SO i use the cd-rom to boot the Redhat cd1. It went into the Install process. But wehn it ask me to partition .. they wont let me install it said i have to make my /root system.. i forgot waht it said..



(I'm a newbie to Linux.. plz help me out THanks :cool:

linux uses a different filesystem then windows. Since your entire hard drive is formated there is no room to install linux. If your d: drive is blank then use the disk administrator tool in W2K to delete it. I don't think the tool can resize.

Now you can install linux. The installer is able to partition the freespace automatically.

I am forced to use a boot floppy with my W2K so you might want to search for previous posts on dual booting with W2K.
