I understand a later kernel (>2.4.18?) has support for the ICH4. It quite happily sees my HDs on the HPT controller but the install routine doesn't like the optical drives attached to the ICH4 (Abit BD7IIR).
Which is the best way to install:

Install from HD or Network and then download and recompile a new kernel? Will this present any other problems?

Slipstream a later kernel into the install media? Is this possible?

How long is it likely to be before a later kernel is included in the iso? I looked earlier and expected to find 2.4.19 but the datestamp on the iso is the same as the one I prepared earlier.

Roker.
In search of a clue.

Im not real sure what your question is. Mandy-9.0 has the 2.4.19 kernel which should have your ICH4 support. Are you saying you cannot install Mandy-9.0?

You can't "slipstream a newer kernel" in the install process. You gotta take what they give you and if you don't like it then upgrade.

The iso will never change for Mandy-9.0. They only post updates in the "cooker" directory on the ftp sites.
