I've been trying to install MandrakeLinux on my HP pavilion ze5000s desktop and it has been hell as of so far. I can load the install program, no problem, and I repartioned and wiped the hd so that there was nothing interfering, but my old os used to have NTFS, so I'm thinking maybe that is causing problems? The mandrake linux install program either locks or gives me an error saying something like "fsck failed, line 8" when it tries to format the hd. Anyone have ANY ideas for me?

Thanks in advance, cheers!

Now I'm getting a different error statement:

"An error occurred
ext2 formatting of hda1 failed."

any ideas?

I'm not familiar with the HP pavilion ze5000s desktop.

Could you please provide a few details about your hardware?

What version of Mandrake and does the HP meet or exceed the minimum requirements for the version of Mandrake you are attempting to install?

Yes it meets minimum requirements:

Intel P4 2ghz
768 ddr ram
20 gig hd
15" sxga + tft display
dvd rom
ethernet + modem

Repartitioned as in deleted the existing NTFS partitions and leaving 20GB of unallocated space or did you create new partitions prior to starting the installation?

What size partitions are you creating during the Mandrake installation?

Yes, I created a new FAT32 partition, and I've also tried it without a partition. I have been selecting the partition to auto-allocate so it takes the entire size of my harddrive. I think the swap was at 243, and "/" was about half the size of "/home" I appreciate your continued help.
