Mandrake 9.0 freezing during install any idea's?

Hello this is my first post here and i'v searched the net and forms but nobody seems to be having this problem. i'm trying to install mandrake 9.0 from my harddrive i made the special boot disk the install starts fine and goes ok tell it starts installing the packages it'll do so much then freeze and it freezes at different points all the time not the same place, the only thing i can get to install is the base system without X .
i'm a linux newbie so i have no idea how to install the packages without a gui.
ohh i checked my hardware with the stuff one the mandrake site and it's all good except for my modem but that shouldn't really matter should it? and i turned of that plug and play autodetect in the bios

well i figured out the prob well my prob anyway for some reason the hd.img file was messing up the install i went and got an older one and everything is working fine cause i'm writing this msg from mandrae right now and loving it

Why didn't you boot from the cd drive?

cause i downloaded the images and my burner is on the fritz so i can't burn them :(
