Hi
I'm trying to install peanut linux from cdrom on my xp driven machine. But for some reason the system can't find that 'elusive bz2 file' as they put it in the install text before you hit enter(sounds a bit deliberate to me). I wonder if the same problem occours in the paid version! I've been told to mount my cdrom drive in dos and try again, but exactly how is that done? I've been a windows sheep for quite a while, and i'm trying to break the habit. Right now i'm in the process of 'finding my distro'. If anybody has a solution please be fairly basic in your description, my techknowhow isn't that extensive;)

I tried that Peanut linux. Never could get it to work right. I even paid for it. It stinks.

How are you trying to install Peanut?
On it's own partition or onto a Windows filesystem?

A couple easy questions first.
I am guessing from your question that you downloaded your CD. Is it an ISO of the full CD? If so did you burn it as an image file from your CD burner? If this is all correct I would think the install program would work automatically.
Is it just the small install file copied to CD? You may need to install this manually or reburn a CD with the full path the installer is looking for. (/DOS/peanut/peanut.bz2)
Getting part way into a Peanut 9.2 boot floppy I see that there instructions for a manual install by mounting the install drive (hard disk or CD) and running "stage1" just after the failed elusive bx2 seek. If you would like to try this but need more instructions, ask...

I have downloaded both the small and the large iso and burned them to disc, and the error occours on both of them. It would be great if i could be directed around this problem. Could it help if i changed the name of the peanut.bz2 file to /DOS/peanut/peanut.bz2 in the image and then burned it afterwards?

I would have favored the reburning option more if you had just downloaded files. Since you have the complete ISO I would suggest the manual method.
If whatever version you are installing from is like the install disk I went part way into, your first step is to go through the install just like it is going to work. After it fails searching for the bz2 file there will be instructions for a manual install something like this:
mount /dev/hdc /DOS
stage1
After you say OK in the box with the instructions a command prompt will open on the bottom of the screen.
Type in the first line where /dev/hdc is your CDROM device. hdc is normal but it could be something else.
If it mounts without errors type in the second line.
Good Luck...
