I'm having trouble with working out the syntax for mounting HFS (Mac) partitions on my YDL install. The partition is hda5 but when i try to create a device with this setting in fstab and then create a new Hard Drive icon with the fstab syntax clicking on it brings up an error message saying that hda8 is already mounted

Anyone got a clue about this?

TIA

Are you sure the partition is HFS - Standard and not HFS - Extended (HFS+)? Linux can't handle HFS+ partitions, is why I ask.

Actually, you are right! it is an HFS+ partition... But is this why linux is trying to mount the wrong one? I thought maybe I just had a syntax error (couldn't tell you EXACTLY what the syntax I used was cos the system is on a home machine.

Also - have you used the HFSplus utils? - I just downloaded the latest version but haven't tried it yet - there was a copy on the YDL disk but the package manager refused to install it (or anything else for that matter :-( ).

I have to say I'm finding Linux a bit of a pain in the bum. Hope things improve!!

Anyway, thanx for your help!

Never heard of HFSplus utils. I'll have to give that a look; but Linux is kinda tricky about what filesystems it likes. Linux is hard sometimes, but it's worth learning anyway ;) .

What trouble are you having with RPM?

Well, since you asked… ;)

I've been setting this sytem up on a 4400/160 mac clone to emulate a server and running Apache/MySQL/PHP4 and EZPublish, a powerful CMS system (www.ez.no).

I got all the other stuff running, Apache, SQL all ran fine first time, but I really wanted to get access to the Mac partition cos using the net and downloading **** seems easier on that.

You know how it is when you have a problem. Every supposed solution seems to throw up even more problems. I read about HFSplusutils and discovered they were on the YDL 2.3 distro (I'm running 2.1 cos my Mac is so slow). I found the package on the CD and tried to open it with the KDE package manager (I don't really feel comfortable with command line yet).

The package Manager just kept saying something like 'Files found 0 resources 1 can't install' so I gave up. I probably should try the command line but the syntax for these things takes a while to penetrate. I'll try it again later.

Well, if you have a partition that you can break up; I'd suggest making a HFS - Standard partition (like I did) and use that to work with the Mac filesystem. 500MB or so oughta do it. Good luck!
