I bought Debian Linux on a 3-CD set, wanting to get away from the Bill Gates world and intrigued by the Debian philosophy. But I'm having a problem with the install and would really appreciate help. All goes fine until the GUI setup... When I let anXious detect my card, it says "the s3v server will be installed." But when I look up my video card ( an S3 Virge/GX model 86385) in the database, it shows the XF86_SVGA server. Regardless of which one I choose to install, when I get to the point where it wants to test the XFree86config file, I get the message "x:exec of /usr/bin/xll/xf86_svga (or "s3v server") failed.
/var/lib/info/xserver_s3v.postinst:kill:(6685)-no such pid"
Same problem if I run xf86config; same error.
Needless to say, "startx" doesn't work...I get what looks like a magnified portion of a desktop and no mouse fx.
Appreciate any suggestions.

Any of our Debian users can offer a bit of assistance for our new member?
