Hi everybody
I've got some real trouble. I was watching some movies on windows (my linux still does not have sound) and it crashed (not a surprise). My surprise was that when I tried to reboot the computer, it ran scandisk on drive C and crashed on 36%. Ok, so let's skip scandisk... anyway, while windows was loading, it crashed. I repeated these procedures a few times. Ok, so let`s go to linux, backup the important data (my e-mails) and format the drive (Linux is in another HD). "My Documents" were recorded succesfully, but when I tried to access the windows folder to record my Outlook Express e-mails... Linux crashed. Now I'm worried. Let's try dosfsck -vl /dev/hda1 to see what happens:
Warning: FAT32 support is still ALPHA
Boot sector contents:
System ID "MSWIN4.1"
Media byte 0xf8 (hard disk)
512 bytes per logical sector
4096 bytes per cluster
32 reserved sectors
First FAT starts at byte 16384 (sector 32)
2 FATs, 32 bit entries
3170304 bytes per FAT (= 6192 sectors)
Root directory starts at cluster 2 (arbitrary size)
Data area starts at byte 6356992 (sector 21416)
791736 data clusters (3242950656 bytes)
63 sectors/track, 128 heads
63 hidden sectors
6346305 sectors total
showed some files, and then it stopped. Even if I wait a whole life it won't proceed. But I still can use other linux areas or X window or press "ctrl + C" to stop it. My HD is a Seagate with 3.1 Gb. I need to recover my data and I'm out of ideas. I would really thank a kind soul that could solve my problem.
Thanks a lot
