Hi Guys !

I have a rather difficult question - at least it seems that way for me . A friend of mine uses IPCOP - that is a linux firewall distribution . That box is connected to his ADSL modem . The other interface is connected to his Windows box .

Thing is - his internet provider only supports ADSL via VPN ( for all who live in Holland - it is xs4all ) . But if i make a VPN connection through a firewall to the modem and from the modem to the provider's server - dont i go around the firewall - as the VPN just tunnels through it ?

Any help is really apreciated !!!

thanks

David

I suggest your friend try the original of IPcop - that is SmoothWall at smoothwall.org. According to SmoothWall, the IPcop folks left SW and took the code with them in an anti-GPL situation.

Anyway, the freebie version of SW has been working for me over the last month. I have a cable modem connection, so I do not have the ADSL problem. But the product is a quick download, has very good documentation, is an easy install, and has VPN support. Perhaps the VPN in SW addresses the problem your friend is experiencing.

He has a working internet connection - i think he tunnels right through the firewall - so making the firewall kinda useless ... :(
