I have just purchased a new 30g HD for a p4 2.2 laptop, and I would like to install Linux Redhat 8.0. I am not finding any of the drivers for the hardware anywhere, i.e. radean 7500 video card.

Will Linux be able to accommodate the needs, or am I in for a rough time?

Try these site's to see if your laptop will run linux. And by linux 8.0 do you mean redhat 8.0?

RedHat 8.0's standard installation includes support for the Radeon 7500 card. Mandrake 8.0, on the other hand, doesn't (it was released before X got drivers for the Radeon 7500). I don't know about Slackware 8.0. It might work with that card, it might not.

What other hardware aren't you finding drivers for? It's kind of hard to say whether or not you'll have problems if we don't know what hardware you're using... ;)

The P4 chip won't have problems, but other things might (Winmodems would be just about the only thing that wouldn't work... possibly sound also).

The Radeon 7500 is nothing more than a higher clocked Radeon. There has been support for Radeon chips since XFree86 4.0.2. Still it is better to use a newer Distro of no more than about 6 months old. If you have some clue as to what you are doing, then get one of the brand new distros like RH 8.0 or MDK9.0. If you are a newbie, go buy a box with manuals for RH 7.3 or MDK8.2.
