after using linux for all of about 2 days now i can see that some of the stuff i am trying to download i have to compile myself... this is fine but when i installed redhat 7.3 i did not check the box that asked me if i wanted to install the development tools or whatever it called them. so i go to the package manager and try to install gcc and those package(s) seem to have a guhzillion dependecies which probably also have dependencies.. i want to be able to go back and install all of the programming/development packages without reinstalling linux. is there a menu or way where i can install them all with out using the package manager?? thanks for the help!!!

Install Red Carpet and copy all the rpms you suspect you need off the cd into the directory /var/cache/redcarpet/packages (to speed things up as redcarpet downloads if it isn't there). Then use Redcarpet to install your developmental packages.

Redhat links:

I believe you can restart the installation, select upgrade and then the development option.

Yes, what MD suggest will work just fine.
