OK, so I finally got around to trying Fluxbox. Overall, I'm very impressed with its speed and flexibility. However, editing the menu manually has a tendency to become very tedious. Is there any app (or script, or otherwise) that I can use to generate a menu based on what's installed on my machine? If compatibility is an issue, I'm using MDK 8.2.

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't. However, during the average day there is only a handful of applications I actually use, and it's those that I have sitting at the top of my fluxbox menu.

For anything else, it's not too difficult to open up an xterm and type the command :)

I thought I heard somewhere that Mandrake can use the debian menu system? If that is the case, then you can use it to create standard menus across any window manager.

Alright, mandrake does use the debian menu system (after I googled for it).

You can read through here (http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/menu.html/) to see how to configure it.

Though what I can't understand through a very brief glance at the google results is why a lot of people think they can't customize their menus through the debian menu system? Here on my debian system, I've customized the hell out of it for each window manager I've got. Twould be very strange if mandrake didn't fully implement the complete menu system...
