hello all..
i just put linux on my machine a few days ago so i am as newb as one can get. im picking up pretty fast just by trial and error. i followed the nhf for putting on eterm, but it doesn't work. i put imlib on and did all that stuff, then went to rpm it and it still says failed dependecies. so i guess i did the imlib stuff wrong. i followed the directions exactly, can anyone give me a hand?

I suppose the LNO members figure you actually have a headache and there is nothing they can do to help.

Using a topic heading that is related to the actual problem does help.

Some members refuse to even read any threads that have topics such as 'Help me' etc.

Just a suggestion...

BTW...

Anytime you install a new library (imlib) you need to run ldconfig as root.

i downloaded the rpm for Eterm. went to rpm and i get failed dependices: libast.so.1 and libImlib2.so.1. so i figure i need Imlib to get this taken care of. i follow the advice of the nhf and download the Imlib stuff, tar it, and i get the folder created. i move down into the folder and type in the rest of the stuff i have to do and wait for it to be finished. then i try to do install eterm again and i get the same exact thing. the last line of the make install command says

make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1.

now, does this mean that the install breaks because it is just looping? the install seems like it is doing more work than needed. let me know if i left anything out.

im trying to install a bunch of different applications and i keep on getting failed dependecies. for example, i tried doing Eterm and i need Imlib2. i download the rpm for that and i get "read manifest failed: Success".

i tared fnlib and i got a folder for that, i do make install and i get some [all-recursive] error. i can't get anything to install because i can't the dependecies on.

i dont know what to do next.

have you taken a look on google for what that error means? just cut and paste the error in to the search window of a google.com/linux search I did a cursory search and alot of hits came up it could take time finding an answer.
