Does any one know how to use Webmin? I know its supposed to be just so extremely easy that a newbie can start a webserver....it's not. Ive been playing around and cant figure out how to do the following:

1. Setup a basic server(w/ out Asp, PHP and so on).

2. Add my domain name to the server. So i want it to go to a specific folder when i type www.mydomainname.com and get the html file.

3. Theres a few errors i have...possibly fix those:

Heres the screens:

This is my APACHE server screen. Notice the url. Its port 10000!

This screen is when you first register a server. DO i have to do this??

This is when i click register a server

This is when i click create a new virtual server...whats a virtual server??

This is the error i get when i click Bind DNS Server

This is when i click networking and addresses

Ok...whats the point of all these? I need someone to explain what im looking at in these screenshots and what each of the features i clicked on means. Thats all. THANKS for ANY help. :)

Webmin is only a gui interface to help with configuring and not a magical app that does everything for you automatically.

You still need to know how to setup Apache and Bind yourself before attempting to use Webmin.

The docs etc. installed with Apache and Bind (Named) would be a good starting point.

Honestly ive read the docs for webmin and tried to read the apache ones but its a little hard to understand when you dont know what a virtual server or stuff along those lines are. Thats why im here. I need help setting up a basic WEBSERVER. Thats it. When i go 127.0.0.1 the suse webserver page is loaded which means apache is working....i know that much. I need help with getting my domain name into the server or whatever its called so that when someone goes to www.mydomain.com they are redirected to the folder i chose. NOW. Thats my problem. I have no idea how to do that. Im i supposed to use bind dns?? If so, it says i havent configured it...well, how do i configure it? Just small questions like that. Once i get my server up, im going to make a CLEAR, CONCISE, STEP by STEP thread in how i did it forum. Im not going to leave anything out. You might be thinking...theres already lots of those threads, just go read theirs. Truth is that ive read them and they just say that they DID it. Not too many say HOW though. Even if they do explain how, its not in too much depth. I dont know...im new to this linux stuff and ive gotten this far in about 3 weeks, i dont really want to stop now either. SO. All i need is some help setuping this domain name(in any form...whether its manually conf. or webmin.)

Thanks.

I'm a newbe to linux also, but it sounds to me that what u are talking about is that you want to have ur domain name to point to ur server... right?

if so, who did you bought ur domain from? they should have a "Control Panel" that has options for your DNS info ie "www.yourdomain.com ---> IP adress" mine does it like that it'll give me options to make "ftp.mydomain.com , smtp.mydomain.com mydomain.com (no www. infront of adress) and about 4 more that i can make up point to my IP.
Maybe that helps?

i'm prety sure u dont have to run a DNS server on your system to make your domain name work, (i hope i dont get flamed for this)in a Windows way of thinking that would be overkill to have ur system run a DNS just for ur network, it might inprove your DNS lookups, but it will probably put a extra strain on your system.

please let me know if you get it running i'll try to assist if i can...since im trying to do the same overhere...

good luck
