I was wondering what my next step is to host a basic webpage on here.

1. Someone told me to configure the /etc/httpd/httpd.conf in an editor and i opened it. I dont know what im supposed to change in it though.

2. Whats my url going to be once i put my .html files in the certain folder?

3. Why does it say "contact refused to localhost" when i type http://localhost ??

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!! :) THANK YOU

right if your new to linux or to servers then you ont no that to get things to work you usually have to edit files

if you want you can get a control panel, which does this for you, you just tell the gui control panel what to do, and it edits the files for you

try webmin (http://www.webmin.com)

I just downloaded Webmin rpm for webmin.com and installed it. I opened it like this in console:

cd /etc/rc.d/init.d/webmin start

then i opened my browser and typed http://127.0.01:10000 and then i opened WEBMIN gui interface. Its really cool. So much easier than doing it manually in httpd.conf! Thanks. I havent gotten a domain name yet.

1. Is my next step to get a domain name?

Thanks a lot!!! :)
