Ok here's whats going on.... As you see from my name, I am very new to linux, but have my internet working, the Nvidia drivers installed so I can play UT2003 etc. I got my Sound Blaster Live! yesterday, and got it working with 'sndconfig' As I started up my computer today I had no sound, so I did 'modprobe emu10k1' and got the following message "/lib/modules/2.4.18-6mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz: init_module
No such Device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
modprobe: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-6mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz failed
modprobe: insmod emu10k1 failed

I had the sound working correctly yesterday, and this really puzzled me... It can't be an IRQ issue can it? I disabled my onboard sound for my ECS K7S5A to avoid the IRQ problems (just in case) should I try installing the ALSA drivers again? Mandy 9.0 should be coming out soon, and I heard it will probably auto-detect soundcards, and set them up, like it does most things. But I want sound in the mean time, cause Xmms is killer, and UT2003 sounds look awesome. Please help me with this guys thanks!

BTW: Sorry if my speach sounds like that of a 12-year-old, I am kinda rushing around with schoolwork and all, I also need to hurry up because I will get in trouble if my dad finds me on the net, because I am a pretty good student, but I just got 2 Saturday detentions for putting a Freshmeat (Freshmen) in his place. Although I am only a sophomore lol. Thx again guys!!!!!

I've had a similar problem with slackware. Although I can't tell you why your sound worked correctly the first time. Try gunzip /lib/modules/2.4.18-6mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz
Then try to modprobe emu10k1
Then edit /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and add a line (or uncomment the if it's there already) reading
/sbin/modprobe emu10k1
That's really a more proper way to start the file during startup. It's much better than using those "Insert-Interface-here-config" programs.

[edit] High school could be so much fun. Even though it sucked so bad.

I just gunzipped it, and it changed to blabla.o instead of .o.gz, and it gives me the same error I had before when I 'modprobe emu10k1' from root. Jeez this is starting to piss me off. I am not even close to being nearly ready to give up, because as I have learned in life, and ceirtainly in Linux "perciverance almost always pays off every time." If anyone has any suggestions I would appreaciate them very much! :O).

High School is pretty fun so far, I like to do sports to get myself to doing something. So far I have managed to stay drug and alcohal free, which I belive is important in a sports season, but I dont know how much longer my 'virginess' is going to last lol. High School is about fun, but I know that if I get into that stuff I will probably go crazy with it, simply because that is my personality. If I like something I seem to do it excessivly, so I am trying to steer clear of the path that I know will lead me to 'pothead palace' lol. Everyone has experimented with drugs and alcohal in High School, and some of my friends do it a lot too, but as I said I am trying to stay clean. The main reason for this is I did football lastyear, and wrestling. I got rookie of the year for wrestling, which makes me want to focus on that, and not other distractions that call pull me off the path. Since last year was my first year wrestling, and I was on varcity, I hope to open up a can of whoop *** this year. Being a rookie isn't too fun, which is why I want to climb the ladder and get better at wrestling. I feel ceirtain goals in life are good for yourself. Whether you be a computer guru, a jock, a stoner, fat man, etc. I like to make 'miniature' goals in my life, when I feel things are important to achieve. I quit football this year, because my scrawny *** was the smallest on team last year, and I didn't play that much until the end. (While the year before that on the 'junior leage' I was a captain, and played almost every play. :O( ) It's pretty funny that one of my best friends was the largest on the team. Lol just imagine a 115 pound kid next to a 285 pount fatass monster. I would like to place in the varcity tournaments that I go in for wrestling, because I only got to enter one JV tournament, where I got first, and got my *** whooped at most of the Varcity tournaments. My highlights of the season were getting rookie of the year, winning 1st in my only JV tournament, and placing 5th in my conferance for my County. I want to do the best I can, and be the best I can in wrestling, because when I win in wrestling I bet I feel 1000 times better a stoner does when he smokes that Nug that he rolls in up in his zig-zag. Wow this has kind of turned into my High School life story so far lol, but It's pretty late at night right now and I am bored not listning to my tunes. Guess I better hit the books... BTW do you guys do any sports?

Is an option to the effect of "plug and play aware OS" turned on in your bios? This option will allow the OS, not the bios, to assign IRQ's to your device. This option is stupid, so Linux does not support it. This option has been known to cause some problems with hardware (espicially soundcards). Why ever one would want to asign device IRQ's through the OS is beyond me. I'm no computer science expert but that just plain sounds horribly inefficient.

No sports for me, unless you count running in my spare time, or hackey sack. But the weather up here has been so horrid for the last month and a half straight I haven't been able to do much of either.

I just disabled that in my bios, and once again tried sndconfig, with the same errors. I would right now try reinstalling the driver, but removing it first to see if that would work. However Mandry 9.0 just came out and I am trying to get it. Man mirrors are filled with peeps, even last night at like 12...... I hope I can find a mirror soon....... BTW if I have a KDE .ktheme file for KDE 2.2 will it work with the new 3.3 that is included in Mandy? Just wondering cause I got a sweet green theme, and seeing as green is the best color in the world I really like it :)

Hopefully Drake 9 will 'auto solve' my problem, but mandy might have been trying to detect my onboard audio, and It could have cause havoc. I disabled the onboard, and disabled the O/S IRQ thing. Should I disable ACPI power management? I know then I wont be able to have my monitor sleep, and such, but is it worth turning it off for the little speed increase?

Maybe try installing the driver from source. You will need your kernel source installed. I've never had any problems with my audigy using the source driver, even when I was using Redhat, which I believe will use the same sndconfig utility. Though I always say, I have always had less problems installing anything manually.
I don't know beyond that right now. The new Drake 9 may very well auto-fix your problem.
As far as the whole themes support between KDE 3 and KDE 2, I am not 100% certatin but I believe KDE3 themes support is back compatible. But, I wouldn't swear to it. I don't use KDE anymore, and although themes are cool, I just don't have the patience to look through them and find the one I like. Good luck again.

I got 2 of the mandy .iso's d/l'd'd already, and I am d/l my last image w/ 1:00 left. I will prolly do a fresh install of the mandy 9.0 tomarrow. Personally I like KDE better than GNOME but thats just my opinion. I hope Mandy 9.0 has good features, I am getting into programming in python as my first language. I am almost positive IDLE the python GUI will be included.
Thx for your help, and I will prolly drop a line to tell you how things go agian... Hopefully they work out! until then cya.
