Can any body explain why RedHat linux 6.1 will not install next to Win ME.on my desktop its loads ok on my Sony laptop Win 98 ,
Laptop hard drive is 6.gig,Win 98, mem 64, processor AMD-k6.500 mgz, Phoenix Bios
Desktop hard drive 80.gig. Win Me,mem 512, Pentium 4. Award bios
any suggestions what Distro will install,
been trying for 2 weeks now, not giving up need to try this out on desktop.:rolleyes:

Are you getting some error? How far will the installer go? How much free space is there on the hard-drive for RedHat.

I doubt it, but the P4 <wincingly> might </w> be confusing it. I forget which came out when. Any newer distro should overcome that, if it is the problem. Since you're familiar with RedHat, try version 7.3.

Any reason you are attempting to install such a old Redhat version on new hardware?

Redhat 6.1 will not have support for the newer hardware.

:eek: I didn't know Linux 6.1 was that old .
its gets as far as loading packages then just sits there no error, just sits there, I waited an hour it did nothing had to press reset to get machine back amongst the living.

Glad to help...

You should have no problems installing Redhat 7.3 or their latest beta version.
