It might not be your video card, are you inputting the correct Scan Frequencies for your monitor? these values you can find in your monitor book or at the website of the monitor manufaturer, check the values and then check your /etc/X11/XF86config-4 file it should be in a section that looks like so
# ************************************************** ********************
# Monitor section
# ************************************************** ********************
# Any number of monitor sections may be present
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "My Monitor"
# HorizSync is in kHz unless units are specified.
# HorizSync may be a comma separated list of discrete values, or a
# comma separated list of ranges of values.
# NOTE: THE VALUES HERE ARE EXAMPLES ONLY. REFER TO YOUR MONITOR'S
# USER MANUAL FOR THE CORRECT NUMBERS.
HorizSync 30-96
# HorizSync 30-64 # multisync
# HorizSync 31.5, 35.2 # multiple fixed sync frequencies
# HorizSync 15-25, 30-50 # multiple ranges of sync frequencies
# VertRefresh is in Hz unless units are specified.
# VertRefresh may be a comma separated list of discrete values, or a
# comma separated list of ranges of values.
# NOTE: THE VALUES HERE ARE EXAMPLES ONLY. REFER TO YOUR MONITOR'S
# USER MANUAL FOR THE CORRECT NUMBERS.
VertRefresh 50-160
EndSection
if you notice my Horizontal Freq. si 30-96
and my Vertical Freq. is 50-160.
Im not saying that this is for sure your problem but it is very important that these values are correct for your monitor to work properly in XFree86

Ok you need to change your run level, im not sure how you do that in redhat 7.2, but do a search of the forums for changing your run level

Ok I did a seach myself and now I remember, do boot into the command prompt instead of the GUI you need to change yoru runlevel open up the file
/etc/inittab
and change the value to 3 that way it will boot into the command prompt
and if you cant get there, when the computer boots up and you get your black screen try
ctrl+alt+backspace
to exit out of XFree86 hopefully that will get you out

Well im not sure exactly having never used redhad, but one way or another your going to have to get your runlevel the /etc/inittab to level 3 so that it wont boot into GUI, I saw your other thread and hopefully some readhat gurus will give you the answer you need

When you install Redhat, is there any option to *not* install XFree86? That way you'd be sure to get a command prompt at startup. Then you can install XFree and a window manager and stuff after everything else works okay.
One problem I had (don't know if grub is the same way, I use Lilo) was a blank screen even booting to the command prompt (!!). Turns out there was a line in lilo.conf that told it to use "vga=547" or some nonsense. Removed that line and everything worked okay. You might be having a similar problem (maybe it's booting to command prompt, but in an unsupported VGA mode).
The best thing to do for getting video cards and monitors to work properly is look in the manuals (or manufacturer's website if you don't have the manuals), and be sure you get updated drivers for your video card. Follow all the instructions for installing the drivers and modifying your XF86Config file, if necessary. Find out the refresh rates of your monitor, as pointed out in an earlier post. Lots of reading, I know! But it can be done! Good luck.

better go to red hat knowledge base. A guy at work was installing 7.2 and said that for some reason the xwin gui was murdering his system. This has happened to a lot of people, there is a known fix although I don't use RH so I can't say other than to do a quick check....
there's xfree86 updates on this page

PS always check with the distro site you're using, there is usually docs to search and stuff to look at. Sometimes there's even people to ask...but you ahve to pay if it aint free...for debian, you just end up paying with time instead of money. The first question they'll ask you is did you read "***" and "*****" and "***". so what I usually do is phrase the question in the form of "where do I go to read up on *** because I'm having a problem with ***" sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't, but you always end up learning something.
debian has the most translations available and also proven on the most hardware.
Often the people there will help people using other distros, as well. A lot of really, really nice people. Debian has a policy of remaining distro neutral with packages, as much as possible. Debian native is NOT encouraged, and in fact is actively DISCOURAGED except where unavoidadble (as in the case of debian packaging utilities...etc...)
