Hi,
I've been tinkering around with my wireless settings for the past two weeks without success. I hope someone out there could help me. I'll try to list the steps I've taken as detailed as possible.
The distribution is Mandrake 8.2.
The card is Lucent Orinoco Silver.
I've already changed the settings in etc/pcmcia/config.opts, in wvlan_cs section to the recommended settings needed by my network. I've also registered my card to the network and am supposed to get an IP thru dhcp. lsmod shows that the wvlan_cs module is loaded. I did some tinkering to with the wireless.opts, to set my network name and mode.
I've also set /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 (eth1 is my pcmcia card, eth0 is the onboard lan) to needed settings such as device name, boot protocol (dhcp) and others.
I have tried restarting my card several times using ./pcmcia restart but it didn't change the result. ifup eth1 fails all the time. iwconfig tells me that the network name has already been set. The mode is managed.
my guess is that the dhcp part is not correct, because I can't seem to get an IP address (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). ifconfig eth1 doesn't supply me with an IP address. Whenever ifup eth1 runs, dhcpcd runs too, but I don't know what happens then. I have also tried installing pump but it still didn't work.
I really am lost on what to do next. I really hope someone can help me.
Thanks
Usamah
