Recently i've managed to install redhat linux 7.2 to my pc... now.. i'm running windows xp and rh linux 7.2.. yeah.. congrates for me.. :p .. but when i try to issue the command startx.. it failed to enter the xwindows... i don;t know what to do.. i've try searching help from my friends but still haven't got the solution.. :( so.. i need help from you guys.. to make it easier.. here's the output when i typed the command startx

for your information... i'm using ATO Radeon 8500 64MB ddr display card... anyone... plz help me... i really need to solve this problem.... thanx..

Try running setup as root and scroll down to display configuration , then select that. Once you configure a screen setting you can save that and try to startx again.

ermm... i have the display card for the driver.... but i dun know how to install it... i downloaded it with windows since only my xp can access the net.... the file is in my documents... so.. how do i install it in linux??? ermm... how to run setup in console??

Well, for Red Hat, Mandrake, and Suse I didnt have to configure anything to start X cause it picked things right up for me but you could do what most do and do the xf86config. When your asked about your Video Card just keep hitting enter til you see your card then type the number for your card, there is a model name to the right of each card. When asked for an identifier I had to enter that. For my card i entered 322 (Nvidia) and for the identifier I entered GeForce (exactly like that) and then startx worked fine for me. I've done the same exact thing for slack/gentoo/ and now freebsd.

I don't think you need a driver, I think the reason X is failing is because you don't have any screens sections in your XF86Config-4 file. If you do what I suggested above you'll be able to select a screen setting.

I believe setup is in sbin so to run it type this as root
/sbin/setup
