hi, im a newbie to linux and i am really confused about this whole dektop thing. Is linux setup so u can download desktops )enlightment for example) and install it? Are these desktops free? Are there any major differance?

P.S. if i wasnt for this bulletin board, i dont know what i would do! thank you all so much!

The Linux GUI is based on X Windows. X Windows is a flexible client server application that will control the screen. The window manager directs X what to put where. Different window managers have a different look and feel, as well as different features.

So the short answer to your questions is yes. You can download different window managers and change your GUI. There are free window managers and some that cost $.
