Hi Everyone,

I'm fairly new to Linux and just finished installing Red Hat 7.3 on my notebook. The install size was over 1GB, so I'm wondering how to trim that down a bit. I noticed an option to select individual packages during installation, but there was just too much in there for me to understand what is needed and what is not.

Has anyone developed a list of individual packages that just represent a "slim" installation - one that just has all the essential packages?

Cheers,
Kerry

What I usually do is select ALL packages when installing my distro (Caldera) and then after the install is complete, I use the Package Manager (Kpackage) and uninstall all the packages I know I don't need.

The kernel source for all the archs except for i386, all the how-to's, faq's etc. that are non-English and anything else I know I will never use.

Redhat should have a list of descriptions for all the packages installed that may help you.
