I'm a newbie to linux with average MSDOS and Windows experience. Tired with M$ environment, brought a cheap CD for Gentoo Linux.

Since this CD is not Bootable and I have no hint how to use these files to start install. Can some1 please help me how to start installation with following files in the CD?

Gentoo Installation Instructions (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/build.htm)

Print out the instructions from the page fancypiper linked you to. Read them. 2 or 3 times. then start. It'll be much easier if you understand them. If you're very new, post your hardware setup (including what's on primary master/slave, secondary master/slave, etc.) and we can help you make sense of the terminology and what to type when...but gentoo is one where for the first few installs, you need the instructions if you're not VERY familiar with linux.

You have 6 virtual terminals as well (alt- F1 through F6). Use one of them and command less /install.txt as suggested in the boot screen.

Don't be tempted to do emerges from separate terminals, however. That will confuse the compiler.

I suggest you emerge links (a command line browser) first after your system is built so you can visit the forums here and at gentoo to ask questions if you have problems.

That way you can browse the web and learn while you are building your software (try emerge fluxbox fluxconf) gui and other programs.

They have snd in the portage tree! Now I gotta get the sound stuff configured.
