I am assuming you are talking about Redhat as it has a recent release of 7.3.
Have you tried the text install? You may be able to see the error message(s) and get a hint.
Check the Online Resources for Red Hat Linux 7.3 (http://www.redhat.com/support/resources/howto/rhl73.html) and see if all your hardware is compatable and if there are any quirks to watch out for.
Later installs have a bad time with any flakey memory, so make sure it is good.
Memtest 86 (http://www.memtest86.com/)
Large drives can take a pretty long time to format, but your description sounds like the install may be doing something strange. Specific error messages that are given is good info to post.

Ill try text mode..I did not get an error message while installing in GUI format..I will try new mem also....Strange though. I put my hard drive on another cpu(P4) and it installed fine...I am new at this so practice makes perfect...I guess..

Some Athlon/Duron's lock-up at boot w/2.4x kernel
type this in the terminal
# cat /proc/cpuinfo
And if you don't see something similar to this
cpu family : 6
model : 6
stepping : 2
then you need to pass "mem=nopentium" to the 2.4.x kernel at boot time
If that doesn't work try here
